Get to Know the Class W231

The class in which this project was created belongs to IUPUI’s School of Liberal Arts, focusing on building a relationship between a group of students and a client within the community. In this class students worked as a group to reach out to clients in the community, providing them over 100 hours of research completely free.

The class includes various writing projects for individuals as well as one overarching team project that spans over the course of the class. They are as follows:

-      Reaching out to local clients and interviewing them

-      Positive and negative business emails

-          Varying correspondences

-      Client proposal

The group project lasting 10 weeks is the recommendation report you’re reading on this website. It condenses and summarizes all of our research based on the challenges explained to us by our local client. Over the course of the W231 class history, we’ve had various organizations such as the Indiana Pacers, Eskenazi Hospital, Boys and Girls Club, Creekside Counselling, IUPUI Caps, and Indiana School for the Deaf.

W231 creates 44 sections a year, with each team of 4-5 students partnering with over 175 clients a year, creating and distributing a local study that contains at least 50 respondents. Each team individually invests around 200 hours of their own time for each client, 100 for research and 100 for the analysis and report itself. This means that each year over 35,000 hours are devoted to the community by students of this class every single year.
